A beautiful, intimate, backyard wedding. In the small northern town of Floodwood, MN, Michael and Sara were married. The ceremony took place in her parent’s back yard in a small alcove of trees with the sun shining through. You walked up between a wooden door frame, surrounded by pictures of them, decorations and flowers, to see a beautiful wood altar. It was an incredibly intimate ceremony.
Michael and Sara met playing basketball in college. And unlike most of my couples, I knew Michael and Sara shortly before they started dating! It was so fun watching them interact as they got to know each other on and off of the basketball court. And years later, on Christmas day, Michael proposed! Sara had joked about Michael proposing with an orange kitten. She tells the story, “Then on Christmas Day I opened the present he got for me and it was a stuffed orange kitten. He told me that this kitten may not be real, but my love for you is. And then he got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. He promised we could get a real kitten after getting married.” Can it get any sweeter!?!
Michael and Sara are a laid back couple who love each other deeply, love to have fun, thoroughly enjoy sports, and are always up for late night board games. They are the sweetest people you’ll ever meet! You can see their engagement session here! So much laughter!
And their wedding was perfect for them! They started the day off getting ready at Sara’s house, followed by their first look in the middle of a row of trees. I loved seeing the look on Michael’s face as he saw he bride for the first time! After the rest of the pictures were taken, family and friends began to show up and you could sense the excitement from everyone. Another unique element of this wedding was my husband doing their ceremony! I have to say I enjoyed being able to see him officiate.
And of course the reception! Which not only had amazing cupcakes- but they were made by Sara’s sister! Who, after multiple delayed flights and having to drive through the night, still found the time and energy to make the cake and cupcakes. They were gorgeous and delicious! I so much enjoyed meeting all of Sara’s family! And before and after the reception, family and friends gathered in the yard for games, a bonfire, snacks, and drinks.
Michael and Sara- I love you both so much and am so excited for you both! I’m glad you found each other and that I’ve been able to be even a small part of your story! You’re both wonderful and I’m excited for all that’s to come! Congratulations!
