James and Emily | A Madison Masonic Wedding

A beautiful Madison Masonic wedding. You know how you sometimes attend a wedding or event where everyone feels like family? And you can see how happy and excited everyone is for the bride and groom? This was one of those weddings. They clearly loved each other and the whole day was full of personalized elements that honored their family and they’re story together. From details made by family members to locations significant to them as a couple.

James and Emily met online and soon realized that their childhood homes were less than a mile apart. They spent years in the same neighborhood and had never met!

We did their engagement pictures in the same place they got engaged. Emily remembers, “James proposed at the top of an overlook point at Pope Farm Conservancy. It’s a favorite spot of ours. We were out snowshoeing (something we love doing in the winter), it was our 3 year dating anniversary, and he got down on one knee in the snow and proposed :)” I loved hearing their story as we walked along by the sunflowers taking pictures. You can see their engagement session with all the beautiful sunflowers and their contagious laughter here: http://www.catherinewphotography.com/james-and-emily-pope-farm-engagement/

James and Emily got married at Covenant Presbyterian Church where her parents (and grandparents!) got married years before. Between the ceremony and reception we stopped by Wingra Park on the river and Brasserie V. It was a great place for a drink, but more than that it’s where they had their first date. From there we headed to their reception a couple blocks from the capital at Madison Masonic center to dance away the night to live music from Michael Walters Orchestra.

Again, this wedding had so many beautiful, personalized touches. The wedding favor was Jam home canned by Emily’s mum (and it tasted so good!), the centerpieces were made by James’ dad, and Emily wore a necklace belonging to her grandmother. And at the end of the night, the final surprise was when Emily got up to sing with the band. And wow can she sing! It was the perfect ending to this day.

James and Emily- thank you for letting me photograph your wedding! It was a beautiful day and I’m excited for all that’s ahead for you both!
